Job Description: This position will give someone the opportunity to live and work within the small community of San Francisco north of Tortuguero on the north East coast of Costa Rica.

This is a long term position with a minimum of a 6 month commitment.

The field staff in the community program will be working independently with another staff to run the three community programs in San Francisco. The major role in this position is to help organize the programs in the local school and help manage our team of international volunteers (max 8). This position directly assists the field staff who is running the programs.

Out three main areas of work in the community are general childcare (general school curriculum), teaching English and teaching Sports as an extra curricular activety. Some of these are assisting the local teachers, others are independently run classes.
As the community programs field staff, you and you other staff member will be managing the volunteers working with the local school teachers, assisting the teachers with additional classes and extra curriculum lessons. Most volunteers will be new to teaching and you will give them guidance and introduce them to the art of teaching children.

Along with Environmental Education and English and Sports classes, you will also be involved in coordinating regular community events, which may be simple events such as tree planting with the children or more complex events such as community fundraisers.

This position will allow the applicant to assist in the running of a strong and worthwhile community project in an interesting and diverse location. It will provide a challenging arena where a combination of teaching experience and environmental awareness can be used to help improve the environment and living conditions of many people.
Qualifications: Qualificationa required:
Applicants MUST be FLUENT in both Spanish and English.
Previous volunteer experience.
Self starting.
Good understanding of community dynamics.

Teaching experience with children.
Awareness of health and safety issues.
Current First Aid qualification.
Open minded.
Adaptable, responsible and organized.
Good sense of humor.
