Opportunity Description:

Fisheries Ecological Modeller - CSIRO

We are seeking to appoint an experienced ecological or fisheries modeller to an internationally recognised group of fisheries and marine ecosystem scientists based at the CSIRO Marine Laboratories.

You will contribute to the development and application of the groups' world leading science in fisheries stock assessment, management strategy evaluation and provision of advice to national and international marine management fora.

The primary role of the position will be contributing to the strategic science direction and delivery of the group, particularly in the areas of management strategy evaluation, spatial population dynamics and further development of practical approaches to ecosystem-based fisheries management.

Accordingly, you will be capable of working effectively with colleagues across a broad range of fields including marine ecology, population dynamics, fisheries science, oceanography, applied statistics, risk assessment, economics, and marine policy and have experience in communicating and consulting with industry, NGO's and government.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A PhD or equivalent research experience in quantitative ecology, fisheries stock assessment or ecological modelling.
- A demonstrated ability to lead and participate as a member of small multi-disciplinary teams and a demonstrated record of formal representational responsibility at a national and/or international level.
- Several years research experience in formulating, implementing and applying ecological models to harvested resources, and in the use of simulation models and methods to evaluate the robustness of formal harvest strategies. (e.g. Management Strategy Evaluation) and;
- A significant record of research excellence (indicated the outcomes of completed work and scientific publications)
