MS Assistantship: Yellow-billed Loon Breeding Ecology - Alaska

The Department of Geography & Environmental Studies at the University of Alaska Anchorage seeks a student for an interdisciplinary MS program starting summer 2015. The candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Audrey Taylor to characterize breeding behavior and activity budgets of an inland population of Yellow-billed Loons on the North Slope of Alaska. The project will entail at least one month of preliminary fieldwork (to establish research questions and protocols) in the summer of 2015, with two additional summers of fieldwork planned. The fieldwork will be based and supported out of an established BLM research station located with the National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska (NPR-A).

Qualifications: Highly qualified candidates should have a B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field, and have experience conducting fieldwork at remote locations. Experience with behavioral observation of birds in the field is a plus, as is familiarity with the Arctic environment. Interested candidates should email Dr. Audrey Taylor directly; please provide a recent CV and short summary of your background and interest in this opportunity.
