Three faculty positions open for new programme on climate change research
Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is launching a new programme on Climate Change. It will cover both dimensions of GHG-mitigating sustainable development, and climate modelling for impact and adaptation research. This will be an interdisciplinary programme with links to existing programmes at ATREE on Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services, Forests and Water.

ATREE is seeking to fill an initial set of three faculty positions:

Position 1: Renewable energy policy and environmental governance
Applicant may have a background in economics, public policy, political science, development studies or engineering, with a proven track record of research on renewable energy and its relationship with local environments, energy access and GHG emissions.

Position 2: Urbanization and climate change
Applicant may have a background in urban planning, engineering, public policy, development studies and allied disciplines, with a proven track record of research on patterns and drivers of urbanization and its implications for climate change, energy consumption, and local environments.

Position 3: Climate modelling for impact/adaptation research
Applicant may have a background in climatology, atmospheric sciences, or ecosystem modelling, with a proven track record of research that includes down-scaling, regional climate modelling, understanding monsoonal climates, and linking climate change data with biodiversity, ecosystem response - and hydrology/water-resources relevant parameters and processes.
This person will be expected to collaborate with and deepen existing research programmes in ATREE.

Essential qualifications for all the above positions
PhD from a reputed university and more than two years of post-PhD research experience

High quality publications related to your area of research
Motivation towards interdisciplinary and applied research
Understanding of the key issues in and challenges facing climate research in developing countries
Ability to develop and work in teams
Ability to contribute to the ATREE PhD programme in Conservation Science and Sustainability Studies
Desirable qualifications for all positions

Demonstrated ability to obtain research grants
Prior teaching experience
Appointments and emoluments
Appointments will be at the level of Fellow (equivalent to Assistant Professor) or Senior Fellow (mid-level Associate Professor) depending upon the candidate's experience. The positions are long-term, supported by endowments. Salaries at ATREE are competitive and at par with the IITs/IISc. The positions will be based in Bangalore.
