Education Internship Bahamas


Primary Responsibilities: Assist with running outdoor education programs for middle school and high school students at The Island School/Cape Eleuthera Institute. This is a leadership role that includes: organizing logistics, orientating participants to their surroundings, teaching fish identification and basic marine ecology courses, touring the island, snorkeling, creating morning exercise programs, sea kayaking, community outreach, camping, enforcing rules, dorm duties, and monitoring the well being of students and their chaperones/instructors. Serve as logistics coordinator for visiting university field courses and individual research scientists.
Secondary responsibilities may include assisting with research and work projects at the Cape Eleuthera Institute. Research opportunities may include, but are not limited to: cobia aquaculture, aquaponics, shark and bonefish research, etc. Work projects may include reef ball construction, landscaping, and boat maintenance.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a background in teaching/supervising students in an environmental setting. A marine biology/environmental science and sustainable system background is preferred. Wilderness setting training a plus. Wilderness medical certification preferred (WFR, WAFA, etc.). Professional demeanor and desire to work on an ecologically-friendly campus.
Age: 18 or older but 21 or older preferable.

Skills: Experience with planning and leading small expeditions for sea kayaking, beach camping, and snorkeling. Ability to operate boats and manual transmission vehicles, and have water safety training. Basic computer skills.

Duration: 4 months minimum, with possibility to extend for a year depending on performance review

Costs: $700 per month, which covers room and board at CEI.
