Community Conservation Outreach Programme Coordinator Sierra Leona

We are looking for a community outreach programme coordinator with a passion for conservation to work alongside our field outreach team. Working with local and rural communities is a key part of Tacugama's work to protect chimpanzees and conserve their habitat to ensure the long-term survival of wild chimpanzees in Sierra Leone.

The Tacugama community outreach programme is currently being implemented in almost 20 rural communities and we are looking to expand its reach and effectiveness. More information is available on our website project page: www.tacugama.com/communityoutreach.html

The coordinator will help to develop and deliver participatory projects that will address root cause issues threatening chimpanzees and their survival. These projects will include environmental and conservation education, agricultural skills training and sustainable livelihood development. Liaison and coordination with other organisations and stakeholders will be an important part of the role.

The coordinator will also build the skills of the existing field outreach team in areas such as project planning, report writing and communication.

- Proven community development experience gained in developing countries
- Excellent planning and communication skills
- An understanding of key issues impacting primate conservation
- Ability to create and carry out new initiatives independently
- Good working knowledge of agriculture / agroforestry
- Enjoy working with and training people
- Previous experience living in an isolated setting with limited amenities
- Enthusiasm and tenacity

This will be a voluntary position for three months but we anticipate being able to provide a small stipend subsequently. More detailed information about volunteering at Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary is available on our website.
