The Freshwater Communications Strategy Manager for the Latin America Water Funds Partnership (LAWFP) implements and manages communication strategies and plans that align with the overall goals of the LAWFP and the operating units and program initiatives.
The Freshwater Communications Strategy Manager manages and implements efficient and effective communications, media and engagement plans to help drive organizational strategy. S/he develops and cultivates relations with key stakeholders of implemented Water Funds and partners of the LAWFP, negotiating to make sure that the creative work reflects the positioning voice of the organization, partners and interests align, and detecting and resolving sensible issues. S/he identifies communications and media needs and opportunities, and facilitates on-going communication between all parts of the regionally dispersed communication division, external stakeholders, and business units of the organization, for projects delivery. S/he works closely with different teams to ensure the correct use of TNC’s or external partners marketing guidelines. The Freshwater Communications Strategy Manager manages communication strategies and program implementation, which may include high profile or key audiences. S/he may supervise staff and manages the budget, key operational plans and dissemination of media information. S/he provides consultation, media training, coaching and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s). S/he engages and foster relations with media contacts.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Develops and cultivates relations with external partners, detecting and resolving sensitive issues or conflicts in coordination with the unit’s executive team and other teams, ensuring that organization and external partners’ interests align.
Designs, manages and implements multiple projects and guides the elaboration of materials, working with and coordinating other professionals inside and outside the organization (such as partners and contractors), setting objectives and following up rigorously on deliverables.
Coordinates timely information updates on internal platforms, for accuracy of internal and external communication.
Coordinates timely information updates on external platform (website) for external communications purpose, and manages webpage.
Identifies and coordinates organization’s or specific business unit’s participation in key events.
Leads communications alignment and content dissemination among different teams and levels or the organization.
Assists with creation/administration of budget, evaluates results and develops corrective strategies as needed. Reports on deliverables.
Leads communication and media initiatives through collaboration with key stakeholders.
Responsibility and accountability for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
May manage or co-manage one or more professional staff and accountable for achievement of team business and professional development goals and objectives.
Opportunity to act independently within specific program or project goals. Work checked through agreement by superiors.
Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 8 years related experience or equivalent combination. Master´s degree is a plus.
Experience in project management, developing communications, media and engagement strategies and measuring results.
Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
Experience supervising staff and team.
Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
Demonstrated client management and conflict-solving skills. Excellent writing, presentation, communication, mediation and negotiation skills, with ability to articulate ideas in a compelling manner for different audiences.
Experience developing, implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
Ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy and the LAWFP to diverse groups including donors and the public.
Experience leading in a team-based environment with internal and/or external partners.
Experience conceiving and writing creatively for various audiences from technical information.
Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
Experience and/or understanding of communication best practices at a decentralized organization a plus.
Demonstrated ability in planning and delivery of communication strategies and budgets.
Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant communication/marketing disciplines. Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
Management experience that includes ability to lead, motivate, set objectives and manage performance and conflict resolution.
Fosters an environment of creativity and professional growth.
Fluent Spanish and English. Portuguese is a plus.
Experience managing corporate communication channels and mail campaigns.
Experience in media relations (interviews, press conferences, press advisory and press releases, content placement).
