Job Description:
Two available positions for biological field technicians from July 14th to September 19th 2014, for a study on the effects of disturbance on staging Roseate Terns, a federally endangered species. This project is affiliated with various other agencies and organizations, and will take place on the Cape Cod National Seashore. Responsibilities of the position include resighting surveys of seabirds and disturbance characterization of staging sites. Successful candidates must be able to live and work in a remote field setting, work well both independently and with colleagues, follow field and data entry protocols, and follow instruction of supervisors. Job duties require the use of a spotting scope and binoculars, compass, and occasionally kayaks. Project-specific training will be provided. Group housing will be provided, as well as field equipment. However, field technician must be equipped with suitable footwear and clothing, and preferably bring own vehicle. Technicians will be paid $10/hour, as well as $0.40 per mile for use of personal vehicle for work.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, or equivalent degree preferred. Undergraduates may be considered but full time work is required during the academic year. Must be able to work independently and in small groups, and interact positively with project managers, recreationists, and other technicians. Candidates experienced in bird identification will be given preference. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic individuals with a good work ethic and strong interest in avian ecology. Applicants should be physically fit, be able to deal with hot and humid conditions, able to walk for extended durations through sand, and capable of lifting weights of at least 25 lbs. Applicants must also be able to live in close quarters, and in potentially remote housing, with other crew members. Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
