Dichos beneficios son exclusivamente para el becario. Será su responsabilidad el financiamiento de otros gastos no contemplados como costos de postulación a las instituciones de educación superior colombianas, costos de viaje fuera de Colombia durante el desarrollo de la beca etc.

Procedimiento de postulación
Una vez que se realice el registro en línea deberá presentar la siguiente documentación que deberá entregarse en el Punto Focal de México, Centro de Promoción y Difusión de Becas:
1. Hoja de registro de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores debidamente llenada y firmada y con fotografía con fotografía a color y carta compromiso, (original y copia).
2. Cuestionario relativo al plan de trabajo y la exposición de motivos de la Secretaría de Relacionas Exteriores, debidamente contestado en original y copia.
3. Carta de admisión definitiva al programa académico elegido, expedida por la universidad colombiana. Este documento debe acreditar aceptación incondicional, fecha de inicio y término del periodo académico, reconocimiento de los cursos que tomará o dictará, en caso de profesores, entre la universidad mexicana y la colombiana, declaración expresa de no contemplar cobro alguno por el semestre o semestres que sean cursados.
4. MODALIDAD PREGRADO: Breve descripción de las razones que lo motivan a realizar estudios o desarrollar una actividad académica en Colombia.
MODALIDAD DOCTORADO O INVESTIGACIONES: Ensayo que debe contener mínimo 1000 palabas, 2 páginas, expresando claramente su proyecto de investigación.
MODALIDAD PARA PROFESORES: Plan de trabajo o programa académico que realizará. En caso de que se vaya a realizar un proyecto de investigación deberá incluir un ensayo con un máximo de 1000 palabras, 2 páginas, en el cual se especifiquen claramente los objetivos de la investigación.
5. Oficio de presentación oficial de la Dirección de Intercambio Académico, Dirección General de Cooperación Educativa y Cultural, Agencia Mexicana de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (*).
6. MODALIDAD PREGRADO: Certificado de notas de los estudios de licenciatura. Es necesario que la universidad donde cursó los estudios, certifique la escala de calificaciones, señalando la nota mínima aprobatoria, el promedio mínimo requerido es de 8.00
MODALIDAD DOCTORADO O INVESTIGACIONES: Certificado de notas de los estudios de licenciatura y posgrado. Es necesario que la universidad donde cursó los estudios, certifique la escala de calificaciones, señalando la nota mínima aprobatoria, el promedio mínimo requerido es de 9.00, copia del título de licenciatura y de maestría.
MODALIDAD PROFESORES: Copia de los títulos de licenciatura y posgrado.
7. Formulario de solicitud ICETEX debidamente completado y firmado.
8. Carta compromiso de que regresará a México una vez que termine el semestre académico.
9. Copia del pasaporte vigente.
10. Constancia expedida por la universidad de origen, en papel membretado y firmada por una autoridad señalando que el candidato se encuentra matriculado como alumno o vinculado como profesor.
11. Carta de postulación de la universidad mexicana señalando su interés para que el estudiante realice estudios o pasantías en la institución colombiana elegida, indicando
que se encuentra matriculado o en el caso de los profesores que es parte de su cuerpo académico y cuenta con los permisos para ausentarse durante el tiempo que dura la beca, compromiso de reconocer o convalidar los cursos que se realizarán y reconocer dentro de la trayectoria académica los cursos dictados en el extranjero a los profesores.
12. Certificado médico de buen estado de salud física y mental, no mayor a treinta días al momento de aplicar a la convocatoria que señale que el candidato no tiene enfermedades que impidan el normal desarrollo de los estudios.
13. MODALIDADES DOCTORADO O INVESTIGACIONES Y PROFESORES: Currículum vitae. Debe incluir toda la trayectoria del candidato (publicaciones, proyectos, entre otros)
14. MODALIDAD PROFESORES: Deberán presentar dos cartas de recomendación académicas en las cuales se especifique su trayectoria académica.
15. Copia del acta de nacimiento.

No se recibirán expedientes cuyo promedio general en los estudios sea menor de 8.00 en la MODALIDAD DE PREGRADO y de 9:00 para DOCTORADOS E INVESTIGACIONES
Se les informa que los expedientes de los candidatos que no sean beneficiados con la beca, no serán devueltos.

La Gobernación Autónoma del Departamento de Tarija a través de la Secretaría General de Protección del Patrimonio Natural y Cultural de Bolivia, organiza el Simposio de referencia, a realizarse los días 20 y 30 de noviembre próximos.

Condor Andino-Ecuador.

Assistant field biologist volunteers needed for research into the Andean condor in the north of Ecuador. The condor conservation project is a collaboration between Fundación Galo Plaza Lasso, the Community of Zuleta and Fundación Zoológica del Ecuador (the parent organization of Quito Zoo), and is part of Ecuador’s National Strategy for Conservation of the Andean Condor.

The condor is a Critically Endangered Species in Ecuador. It is believed that there are fewer than 50 wild condors left in Ecuador, and 18 in captivity. The project aims to understand more about condor behavior (both wild and captive) in order to identify factors impacting on condor survival and the actions needed to save the species from extinction. Project components include captive breeding with plans for future reintroduction, observation of wild condors, community education and raising awareness.

Volunteer biology students/graduates can help with data collection (behavioral observation) for research and habitat conservation. Volunteers will make detailed observations of the behavior of the project’s 7 captive condors, and of the wild condors seen most days here. The area is home to around 10% of Ecuador’s wild condor population.

The project aims to conserve the condors’ páramo habitat and inventory other wildlife in the area, so volunteers may also be involved in cataloguing camera trap photos (often of Andean bears, as well as the condors), or recording wildlife sightings.

This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in data collection in the field and may qualify as an internship or field experience for the purposes of some degree courses.

Applicants must be studying or have studied biology, zoology, wildlife conservation or a similar subject at university level for at least a year. Minimum age: 20. Volunteers need to be reasonably fit, able to walk at altitude, and have good attention to detail for data collection.

4-week placement starting 1st March 2013. Other opportunities also available for December 2012 (5 weeks – 2 places only), or for other months in 2013.

Field assistant in Laysan Island.

Field assistant needed to monitor the survival, breeding, movements, and behavior of Millerbirds that were recently translocated to Laysan Island. Primary duties include resighting color-banded birds, spot mapping, nest searching and monitoring, and limited mist-netting. Field assistant will conduct data entry on Laysan, communicate effectively with ABC and USFWS supervisors in Honolulu via email and satellite phone, produce regular reports, and assist with considerable pre- and post-voyage activities. The candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the camp to maintain the field facility and assist with other restoration activities including, but not limited to, habitat restoration and monitoring Laysan Duck and Laysan Finch populations.

Applicants must be in excellent physical health with outstanding hearing and vision, be able to tolerate extreme heat and isolation, and the stress of working in a densely populated seabird colony. Applicants must be highly independent, self-motivated and comfortable living with 4–6 other people on a small, remote atoll in the Pacific with limited outside contact for 6–7 months. Travel to Laysan involves a 4 day sea voyage that is often difficult. Applicant must pay their own way to Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Preference given to candidates with experience working with endangered passerines and working in seabird colonies.

Student Program Leaders

Round River Conservation Studies (RRCS) is seeking enthusiastic Student Program Leaders for upcoming undergraduate conservation programs in southern Chile (Patagonia; the Chacabuco Valley, near Cochrane).

RRCS is an international non-profit organization dedicated to developing conservation strategies to preserve and restore wild places through conservation science and environmental education. RRCS offers field-based academic programs that are integrated directly into current conservation efforts with local communities. Programs are limited to small groups of students to provide a first-hand experience of the scientific, social and political aspects of community conservation. Positions involve living and working on-site at remote field stations, and some travel in the program country for a 3 month duration.

Description:
Schedule and lead program activities; manage logistics and safety; collaborate with local partners and senior RRCS staff to conduct research; teach conservation biology, biological field methods, natural history, restoration ecology and human ecology; facilitate group discussions; and encourage students’ understanding of complex conservation issues in the context of the local region. Student group size will be 7 to 11 university students this spring. We will staff 2 or 3 program leaders/instructors. Because this is a live-in position, it can present unique learning experiences, as well as challenges, and leaders must be available and approachable to students at all times.

Qualifications:
Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the student programs, preferred program leaders must have well-rounded experience in education, field research, and community outreach.
*MSc in natural science or a related field, and at least 2 years of field experience
*Teaching experience at an undergraduate level
*Experience managing field-based student programs
*Demonstrated ability to design field research studies and/or community projects
*Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification (preferred)
*Prefer previous experience traveling or living in program location
*Spanish proficiency (fluency preferred)
*Great interpersonal skills, high-energy levels, and lots of patience

Salary/Benefits: US $2,500 per month, plus room/board, travel costs, and evacuation insurance.

Program dates:
January 17 – April 11, 2013 (plus approximately 2 weeks for pre-program preparations and a few days after the program for wrap-up)

Field Assistants for Marine Turtle Project in Costa Rica

Background Information
The Endangered Wildlife Trust is a registred charity which has worked to protect marine turtles since 1989. Also works in four nesting beaches in the Caribbean of Panama. The Pacuare Reserve, on the North Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, has the most important Leatherback beach in the country (dermochelys coriacea), but also is an important site for Green Turtles.
Duties
Field Assistants will work in coordination with our biologists: monitoring the turtle activity on the beach, taking data on the beach, analysis of this data, beach patrolling leading student groups, environmental education activities, talks and workshops with students and volunteers, conduct his/her individual research project. Field Assistants while in Pacuare will work mainly with adult and hatchlings of Leatherbacks.
Requirements
The successful applicants must be graduated or near to graduate in biology, environmental science or similar. They must speak at least basic Spanish and English enough to communicate. Be in good physical health, motivated, positive and adaptable to unexpected situations. They must be able and prepared for living and working in remote areas, sometimes in difficult conditions.
Benefits/Costs
Food and accommodation is provided while in Pacuare Reserve. Accepted Field Assistants must pay their own flight to Costa Rica

Marine Turtle Project Head Intern

Caño Palma Biological Station, Barra Colorado Wildlife Refuge, Tortuguero Lowlands, Costa Rica (10km north of Tortuguero).

Background Information
Monitoring has been conducted since 2004, on a 5km stretch of beach on the northern side of the Tortuguero river mouth, called Playa Norte. The Marine Turtle program is one of six long term monitoring surveys carried out by the Station which also hosts other international researchers.

Duties
The individual will coordinate the marine turtle program in collaboration with the Director of Research, Station Manager and Research Coordinator. Responsibilities include leading patrols for morning and night surveys and ensuring the accurate collection of biometric and nesting data. The Head Intern will also be responsible for training other interns and volunteers, data base management, the production of end of season reports and community engagement with the program.

Requirements
• Previous turtle monitoring experience.
• Proven leadership abilities, organisational and time management skills
• English fluency and Intermediate Spanish language speaking skills necessary
• Experience with Microsoft Access and database management
• Proven ability to produce scientific reports
• Excellent physical health, patrols walk the beach for a minimum of 10km.
• Experience working/living in tropical conditions beneficial.
• Possess a positive attitude with high energy, ability to work in an upbeat manner despite difficult environmental conditions important.
• Flexibility to work a varied schedule when necessary, including late nights and early mornings
• Must be at least 21 yrs. of age.

Benefits/Costs
Stipend $150 US per month as part of the Canadian DONNER Foundation Funding grant (E-51-11), food and accommodation provided, contract completion bonus of $1000 US upon receipt of approved reports at season's end.

Kido Foundation, Carriacou Island, Grenadines of Grenada, West Indies

Background Information
Kido Foundation Nesting Leatherback & Hawksbill Monitoring Tagging Program started in 2002. Volunteers will actively participate in monitoring and data-collection of 2 critically endangered Sea Turtle Species, Leatherback and Hawksbill, nesting on 3 different beaches on the Island; helping to reduce illegal poaching activities of turtles and eggs (from March to August).

Duties
- Night patrols on foot in a Nature Park area, from 8pm to 5.30am, for 5 nights a week.
- Working with local guides or field research assistant, helping with tagging post-nesting turtles; carapace measuring and other data collection; disguising tracks and nests against poaching activities; egg counting and mapping nest location.
- Hatchling monitoring and survival-rate data collection. (Nest excavation)
- Early morning beach patrols (1h) following night patrols
- Beach clean up

Requirements
- Volunteers must have a keen and genuine interest in conservation and ecology and have love and respect for all animals, wild and domestic.
- Only vegetarians, non-smokers, non-alcohol drinkers and non-drug users accepted
- Volunteers must be good swimmers, physically fit to use bicycle and walk long distances on soft, sandy beaches and nature trails, working in any weather conditions.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules as required & able to adapt to work nightshifts and sleep during the day.
- Be willing to work under instructions as a team member.

Benefits/Costs
- The cost per volunteer is 15US$ per day for accommodation, cooking gas and electricity; for a minimum of 30 days stay. For periods longer than 3 months, costs are reduced to 10 US$.
- Food is purchased and cooked by volunteers.
- Any other expenses, such as flights or other transportation costs are covered by the volunteers.

Research Supervisor for Ocean SpiritsTurtle Research and Educational Project, in Grenada

Background Information
Ocean Spirits is a locally based NGO that has for the last 13 years been working to help conserve Grenada’s critical sea turtle stocks and habitat through education, research and community development. We are the country coordinator for the Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network (WIDECAST), and in 2013 will be running the 14th consecutive year of monitoring on Grenada's primary index nesting beach. We are looking for candidates to supervise and manage the day to day activities of this busy monitoring programme

Duties
The leatherback monitoring programme at Levera beach is one of the busiest in the region and requires dedication, hard work and team work to run successfully. As a supervisor of this programme, you will be required to ensure all research activities are carried out to a high standard. This includes - managing night patrols including flipper and PIT tagging, collection of morphometric data; coordinating daily morning surveys on adjacent beaches; monitoring nest emergence and carrying out/managing nest excavations during the hatching season; provide detailed training and supervision for all participants (international and local), be responsible for data collected during research activities, data entry and the maintenance of all research equipment. In addition, where possible you may have the opportunity to participate in the in-water hawksbill catch and release programme.

As team leaders you will be responsible for the well being and safety of up to 40 volunteer research assistants over the entire season (6 months); oversee the smooth day to day running, maintenance and care of the project quaters and participate in the educational component of the project when required.

Requirements
While a large portion of your time is spent working with turtles, an even greater amount of time is spent working with people. Successful candidates MUST have strong people skills and the ability to relate to people of different nationalities and social backgrounds above all else. You will need to be physically fit (potentially walking up to 5km a night on soft sand), have a sense of humour, hold a valid driving license and be First Aid trained or be prepared to undergo certification. Experience of working with groups, a familiarity with working in developing countries and working with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is advantageous.

Benefits/Costs
Food and accommodation will be provided and a small stipend will be paid on a weekly basis. Accommodation is based on a 2 house share with research assistants.
