DIVERSITAS, the international biodiversity science programme under ICSU and UNESCO,
is seeking a Science Officer for its International Secretariat located in Paris, to implement
its activities (www.diversitas-international.org). The goals of DIVERSITAS are:
‐ Promoting, facilitating and conducting integrative biodiversity science engaging global networks, that links biological, ecological and social disciplines, and
‐ Providing the sound scientific basis for decision-making to secure the planet’s variety of life, while contributing to human well-being and poverty eradication.
Duties: Perform the following tasks
‐ Organisation of scientific workshops and meetings for DIVERSITAS projects (agenda, logistics, on-site coordination, meeting summaries, follow up on decisions, preparation of scientific publications)
‐ Communication around DIVERSITAS scientific activities (e.g. web site, electronic newsletter)
‐ Representation of DIVERSITAS at scientific meetings
‐ Liaison with international DIVERSITAS scientific partners.
Education: Master of Science in one of the fields of interest to DIVERSITAS
Competencies:
‐ Outgoing, and at ease in multicultural backgrounds
‐ Willingness to travel abroad occasionally
‐ Fluency in English (both oral and written); French language skills are a plus
‐ Experience with project management
‐ Interest in developing science-policy interfaces
Starting date: October 2012
Duration of contract: 1.5 year
Duty station: Paris (DIVERSITAS international secretariat)
