Job Description: Job Description: Avian Field Technicians (3) needed for survey to model avifaunal ecological responses to long-term landscape change on the islands of Pohnpei and Kosrae, Federate States of Micronesia. The project consists of surveying island avifauna to determine how birds may have been affected by landscape alterations. Primary duties include conducting surveys at early hours throughout the island's dense forest and difficult terrain, identifying the island avifauna by hearing and/or sighting. Surveyors must interact with private land owners, island residence, and cultural traditions in respectful manner.
Qualifications: Field technicians must have previous survey experience and interest working with birds. Applicants must be in good physical condition, be able to work at early hours in remote, rugged and very steep and wet habitats, have excellent hearing and color vision. Knowledge of GPS and an interest in avian population ecology are also required. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience conducting auditory surveys, and individuals with experience in tropical forests or difficult conditions. Applicants must be able to follow protocols, work well independently and in team settings, and understand the difficulty of fieldwork in foreign locations.
Salary: $ 1200.00
