Background Information
The Endangered Wildlife Trust is a registered charity which has worked to protect marine turtles since 1989. Also works in four nesting beaches in the Caribbean of Panama. The Pacuare Reserve, on the north Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, has the most important Leatherback beach in the country (Dermochelys coriacea), but also is an important site for green turtles.
Duties
Research assistants will work in coordination with our biologists: monitoring the turtle activity on the beach, talking data on the beach, analysis of this data, beach patrolling leading student groups, environmental education activities, talks and workshops with students and volunteers, conduct his/her individual research project. Research assistants while in Pacuare will work mainly with adult and hatchlings of leatherbacks.
Requirements
The successful applicants must be graduated or near to graduate in biology, environmental science or similar. They must speak at least basic Spanish and English enough to communicate. Be in good physical health, motivated, positive and adaptable to unexpected situations. They must be able and prepared for living and working in remote areas, sometimes in difficult conditions.
Benefits/Costs
Food and accommodation is provided while in Pacuare Reserve. Accepted research assistants must pay their own flight to Costa Rica.
