Oferta: Asistentes de campo en Canadá

THREE FIELD ASSISTANTS ARE NEEDED for a bird study near Williams Lake,
BC from 1 May - 31 Jul 2008. This project is investigating interactions
between cattle grazing and grassland bird communities in the
Cariboo/Chilcotin region of BC, Canada. The project is joint effort
between Simon Fraser University and the Canadian Wildlife Service. The
work is demanding, with early mornings, long irregular hours, highly
variable weather conditions. However, this is a great opportunity to
gain valuable field experience in a unique and beautiful setting.
Accommodations are basic and require living in a tent for 3 months.
Travel between Vancouver and the study site is provided.
Position 1: Two assistants are required to conduct point count bird
surveys. Duties include point count birds surveys, vegetation sampling,
data management and entry. Position 1 will spend more of there time on
point counts surveys however they will also be involved in nest
searching/monitoring, bird banding and vegetation surveys. Applicants
with bird identification skills preferred.
Position 2: One person is required to assist with a study of Vesper
Sparrow productivity. Duties include nest searching/monitoring, catching
and banding birds, behavioral observations, invertebrate sampling,
vegetation sampling, data management and entry.
Qualifications for both positions – Interest in birds and ecology;
ability to work alone in the field under rough conditions; ability to
live in a remote setting with only 1 or 2 other people; ability to smile
at 4 in the morning; familiarity with MS Excel; meticulous data
collection/entry skills; prior field experience with nest searching and
banding are assets but are not required. Salary – up to 3000/month
(depending on experience). Food and accommodations provided. To apply
